Fractional sales and commercial leadership

Sales first. Systems that outlast me.

I get hands-on and create opportunity for businesses that want more of it. Then I build the process, tools and team that turn it into revenue, while I'm there and after I've gone. One to three days a week.

Opportunity first. Then the engine behind it.

Most businesses have an opportunity problem first, and then a "nothing behind it" problem. Deals don't arrive fast enough, and the process for handling them lives in one person's head.

So I start by selling. I create real pipeline early, through outreach, meetings and conversations, because it's the fastest way to learn what works in your market.

Alongside that, I build the engine: the CRM, the process, the reporting and the playbooks. The aim is that it keeps working when I step back, whether that's your team, a new hire, or you.

Where we start
Hands-on sales, systems or an audit
What stays
Documented process, CRM and playbooks

Three ways in, depending on where you're stuck.

Most engagements start with one and grow into another once there's something working to build on.

Hands-on sales and opportunity generation

I get in the seat. Target accounts, outreach, meetings booked and deals moving: done, not just planned. Best when you need pipeline now and don't have the people to create it.

  • Target account research and outreach
  • Meetings booked and follow-through
  • Partnerships and referral channels

GTM, systems and process

A go-to-market plan you can actually execute, a CRM set up properly, reporting you trust, and playbooks written down so it doesn't rely on me.

  • GTM strategy and positioning
  • CRM, tooling and reporting
  • Documented process and handover

Team and performance audit

Sales team underperforming and well off target? I look at the people and the process, tell you straight where the gaps are, and help you fix them.

How the audit works

A typical way in.

You don't have to sign up for a year. Most start small, see it working, then decide what's next. Every engagement is scoped to you.

  1. Step 1

    Look first

A short audit of your pipeline, process and team, or a first stretch of hands-on selling. You get a straight read on where the gap is.

  2. Step 2

    Build and sell

Typically around three months, one to three days a week. I create opportunity while putting the CRM, process and reporting in behind it.

  3. Step 3

    Lead or hand over

Stay on as fractional commercial lead for up to a year, or hand over a working engine and a team that knows how to run it.

Off target? Find out whether it's the people or the process.

I've built sales teams, hired, onboarded, coached and managed performance, including the harder conversations. The audit puts that to work on your team, with an outside view and no politics.

People

  • How each person is actually performing against role and target
  • Skills, coaching and development gaps
  • Hiring, onboarding and where the structure creaks

Process

  • How leads become opportunities, and opportunities become deals
  • CRM hygiene, handoffs and follow-up
  • Whether targets and forecasts are realistic

Numbers

  • Pipeline coverage and conversion at each stage
  • Activity versus outcome
  • Where the leaks are and what they're costing

You get a plain-English findings report and a prioritised plan.

If you want it fixed as well, I can stay on and run it: one-to-one coaching, performance plans, sales development and day-to-day management until the team is back on track.

A live engagement, producing real revenue.

This isn't a case study from a previous life. It's happening now.

The brief

Build a go-to-market approach and the systems to run it, and start turning opportunity into revenue.

What I did

  • Created the GTM strategy
  • Implemented new systems, tools and processes
  • Run the sales and marketing side myself, end to end

What it's done

5 figures

Revenue growth from the opportunity generated.

Client name and detailed figures shared on request.

Four stages, scoped to the job.

Days a week and total length depend on the goal, typically 3 to 12 months. I review with you at agreed points rather than leaving it open-ended.

Stage 1

Discover

Look at the pipeline, the market, the process and the people to find where the real gap is.

Stage 2

Sell

Get hands-on and create opportunity early. It's the fastest way to learn what works.

Stage 3

Build

Put the systems, CRM, playbooks and reporting in as I go, not as an afterthought at the end.

Stage 4

Review

Check against the goal, then extend, reshape or hand over, documented and ready for your team or a new hire.

Businesses that want growth and don't yet have the engine.

It works best where there's already something people want to buy. What's missing is the commercial side.

  • You want more opportunity, and nobody has the time or the specific skills to create it.
  • The founder is still doing most of the selling, and it's capping growth.
  • You have a sales team, but it's underperforming and well off target.
  • You want senior commercial leadership without a full-time hire, and a plan to hand it on.

Not sure which one you are?

That's usually what the first conversation sorts out.

Who you'd be working with.

I'm Lee Manclark, a salesperson first. I started in tech sales at PayPal and Shopify, where I learned how commercial teams work at real scale: pipeline discipline, process and the systems behind them.

Since April 2026 I've been working inside a commercial services business in Edinburgh, building the go-to-market strategy and running it hands-on. I also co-founded Forth & Oak, a mortgage and protection advisory firm, and run its commercial side.

Along the way I've built and managed sales teams: hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance plans and the tough calls. The longer-term aim is fractional commercial leadership, but I'm happy to start where you need me, hands-on.

Based in Edinburgh, working with businesses across Scotland and the UK.

Straight answers.

How is this different from hiring someone?

A full-time commercial hire costs more and takes months to recruit and ramp up. Fractional gets you senior experience for the days you need, with no recruitment fees and no long-term overhead. If it works and you want someone full-time, I'll help you hire and onboard them.

What does it cost?

A day rate or a monthly retainer, depending on the work. I scope it after a first conversation so you're paying for an outcome rather than guessing at hours.

What happens when you step back?

That's the point of the whole thing. The CRM, process, playbooks and reporting are all documented, so your team or your next hire can run it without me.

Do you only work with existing sales teams?

No. It works just as well for businesses with no sales function at all, where I start hands-on and build from there.

Let's look at where your next opportunity comes from.

One conversation is enough to tell whether this is a fit. No deck, no pitch, just a straight look at where the gap is.
